How can we overcome powerlessness? There are many different ways that this can be done and it will vary from person to person. Understanding your worth and your value will take you wherever you want to go. While receiving validation from others is helpful, it’s not until we tell ourselves ‘I can do this’ that action starts to happen. In my personal experience, that feeling of being unable to do anything, was when I felt truly powerless. It wasn’t until I told myself “I’m not going to feel this anymore, I can do it” that I was able to find true power within myself and things began to go my way.
Emotion drives what we do and how we do it. Therefore, if we have a positive emotion in all we do, saying ‘when’ instead of ‘if’ then everything can begin to fall into place. From feeling powerless we can pick ourselves up, focus on what motivates us and push through. Caroline McHugh talks about ‘the art of being yourself’ and this very important in overcoming powerlessness. When we know and love who we are, we have the power to do anything that we set our minds to.
